Spotty snow showers & flurries are possible tonight through Friday off & on with mostly cloudy to cloudy skies.
After 36-44 today & 29-31 tonight, we should run 31-36 Thursday & Friday with lows 26-30.
Some scattered snow showers are possible Saturday-Sunday with highs 31-36 & lows 24-29.
With a warm up to the 40s a bout of rain changing to snow is likely mid to late next week. A couple snow systems may follow with minor accumulating snowfall & lots of wind.
It will get colder.
It appears the coldest air of the winter will arrive around January 20. With some snow pack, overnight lows below 0 to 0 are likely for at least a couple of nights.
Note the cold anomalies on the move southward:
It looks like a sudden spring-like flip somewhere in the very end of January to early February time frame with sudden thaw, rain, wind & even some t'storms.
Severe weather may occur from the South to Mid-Atlantic with even some risk getting as far north as the Midwest, Ohio Valley (& our viewing area).
Near/record warmth cannot be ruled out. This will likely get the daffodils beginning to poke out of the ground & will swell & even break Silver Maple & American Elm buds.
Rivers may rise to near flood stage if the rainfall amounts of 1.5-4" pan out.
It appears another lobe of much colder air will follow, setting the stage for winter weather event/ice event or ice storm.
After that winter spell it could be big spring surge for a time.
