LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Ivy Tech is changing the way it charges tuition.
The new model is called Ivy+, and it was approved about three weeks ago.
Book fees will now be charged as part of tuition which could potentially save students hundreds of dollars each semester.
Full-time students will pay a flat fee of $2,243.25, and part-time students will pay a flat fee of $149.55 per credit hour.
Director of Admissions for Lafayette Ivy Tech Ivan Hernandez said including books in tuition could help students avoid loans.
"Students sometimes get enough financial aid to pay for tuition, but they may not have enough money to buy books and stuff like that," he said.
Hernandez said it could also help more than just students.
"It's something that should really help our students, the state, our community," Hernandez added. "There's a lot of need for technicians right now, and Ivy Tech is the number one leader in training those technicians for Indiana."
The new program applies to all Ivy Tech locations, but out of state tuition is more, but books are still included.
Ivy Tech is providing eBooks as part of the new program. However, students can opt out and pay for regular books.
