TIPPECANOE, WHITE & CARROLL COUNTIES, Ind. (WLFI)—IU Health Arnett is making strides to combat substance abuse disorder. Nalox boxes are being distributed across Tippecanoe, White and Clinton counties.
A NaloxBox is a clear acrylic box that holds Naloxone or Narcan. Those medications are approved to reduce opiod overdoses. IU Health's Community Outreach and Engagement Committee funded the purchase of 21 NaloxBoxes. Community Outreach & Engagement Program Director Melissa Dexter said this is a community priority health need.
"The onset of COVID-19 this past year we've definitely competing priorities in our community health need but we can't forget about those who have been under a stay at home order and lockdown and quarantine, the additional stress of losing jobs," said Dexter.
Dexter said the boxes have been ordered. Phoenix Paramedics Solutions will install and re-stock the boxes.
