LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Indiana State Police are honoring Trooper Peter "Bo" Stephan at the place where he died.
Police put a white cross on Old State Road 25 North Wednesday. Stephan died while responding to a call on Oct. 11 when his car veered off the road, rolled once and hit a utility pole. He died of the injuries he sustained during the crash.
Stephan worked with ISP for four years and leaves behind a wife and a six-month-old girl.
Trooper Stephen Grayson said this is a special way to remember their fallen brother.
"It's special for all of us, as a district to come together and put this cross up in his honor. We have a few flowers that we're going to put out as well, so again it's just a special day for all of us," said Grayson.
Move Over Outfitters in Lafayette helped make the memorial possible. Grayson said Stephan's smile was contagious everywhere he went.
"Bo was great, he was a great shift partner, a great trooper, everyone here at the district enjoyed working with him, and he's going to be missed, but his legacy will live forever and we'll carry on with what we have to do and always remember him and his sacrifice," added Grayson.
