TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. WLFI) — Indiana State Police were led on a high-speed chase Saturday afternoon. According to ISP, on Saturday, October 6, police observed a car heading northbound on I-65 in excess of 100mph. The driver of the car initially pulled over but soon sped off at a high rate of speed as the officer approached the car.
The car continued northbound on I-65 for 20 miles at speeds in excess of 100mph. when it attempted to exit I-65 at the 193mm and crashed on the exit ramp.
Four people where in the car when it crashed. The driver, Elijah R Gilbert, and front seat passenger, Brandon L Wade, took off on foot after the car came to a stop but were apprehended nearby. The two back seat passengers were juveniles.
Gilbert was arrested and faces charges of:
-Resisting Law Enforcement by means of a vehicle, Level 6 Felony
-Operating While Intoxicated, Class C Misdemeanor
-OWI Causing Endangerment, Class A Misdemeanor
-Possession of Marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor
-Reckless Driving, Class C Misdemeanor
-Providing a False Identity Statement, Class A Misdemeanor
Wade was also arrested and faces charges of:
-Possession of Marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor
-Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor
No injuries where reported.
