Greenwood HS golf coach arrested on charges of dealing meth, heroin

Greenwood High School's golf coach is one of two men arrested by Indiana State Police on drug charges.

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) -- Greenwood High School's golf coach is one of two men arrested by Indiana State Police on drug charges.

37-year-old Benjamin Beatty faces felony charges of dealing methamphetamine, dealing heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of a syringe and counterfeiting. He also faces misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Indiana State Police, troopers pulled over a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Jared Elsner of Seymour. That stop occurred on State Road 46 at Johnson Boulevard in Columbus. During the search of that vehicle, officers found heroin, a syringe and drug paraphernalia.

Elsner was arrested on charges of possession of heroin, possession of syringe and possession of paraphernalia.

A second vehicle stop then occurred on State Road 46 at Carr Hill Road in Columbus. That stop of Beatty's vehicle found one ounce of suspected methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia during a search.

Search warrants then turned up additional meth, heroin, marijuana, syringes, drug paraphernalia and packaging material. Counterfeit currency was also found.

ISP says Beatty is the varsity high school coach and junior high golf coach in Greenwood.

Both men were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.

ISP says the investigation was conducted with the Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team.
