LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- Greater Lafayette Commerce is looking for host families for Japanese students later this summer.
It's a part of the Sister Cities program with Lafayette's Sister City of Ota, Japan.
Ever since Lafayette and Ota became Sister Cities in 1993, Ota has sent students to stay in Lafayette.
This year, 12 students ranging from 12-16 years of age will need a host family from Aug 7-16.
Greater Lafayette Commerce economic development director, Jeremy Clifford, said hosting is a great opportunity to show the students all that Greater Lafayette has to offer.
"I know some host families have taken them on hiking trips, some to a high school football game, really it's up to the host family to kind of use that time to share our culture," said Clifford.
The program is also meant to promote international unity.
"To be able to have a program like this where we're sharing students there and they're sharing students with us, and from a young age we can encourage that kind of collaboration is really, really neat" said Clifford.
If you would like to apply to be a host family, you are urged to either email Jeremy Clifford at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (765) 742-4044.
