TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A $127,000 grant will help add three new, free WiFi hot spots in Tippecanoe County.
Wintek is behind the project and grant.
The locations are Buck Creek United Methodist Church, Point West Mobile Home Community, and Maples Mobile Home Park.
Each location falls within the Tippecanoe School Corporation district, and the goal is to help those working and learning from home.
Commissioner Tom Murtaugh said anyone will be able to park in the areas and use the WiFi.
He said it will be a benefit to those who cannot afford internet access.
"They were centered within areas that were underserved in the community for either broadband, fiber or in areas where there were a significant number of families that didn't have access to that service," Murtaugh said.
Murtaugh the hot spots aren't up and running just yet, but he said they will be operational by the start of next school year.
