LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A garden expo and plant sale is happening Saturday at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds.

Come get your hands on all sorts of plants, trees and flowers.

There will even be a rummage sale and desserts.

Tippecanoe County's Master Gardeners Association is providing most of the plants.

The organization has put on this annual event for more than 20 years.

More than 30 vendors will be in attendance.

The chair of the garden expo said this event helps teach the community the importance of gardening.

"Part of Lafayette is a food desert and we want people to be growing things," said the chair of the garden expo Cherly McCool. "We want to teach our children how to grow things so that we can be environmentally responsible and they can grow their own fruits and vegetables and really learn."

The sale is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m..

There will be three guest speakers throughout the day.

All the funds made help the Tippecanoe County Master Gardeners with its projects, gardening and community events.

The first 300 people at the garden expo will receive a free tree.
