TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Tippecanoe School Corporation families can get free back to school supplies this weekend. Saturday, the corporation is hosting its Backpack Splash event.

Student services director BeAnn Yonker said getting kids back to school can get pricey. This is an effort to help support families in the district keep money in their pockets.

Socks and shoes are also being distributed. If they run out of your size, there will be free vouchers to give away for a pair of shoes. There will be almost 600 book bags filled with school supplies to hand out.

"We took every school supply list from our 19 schools, combined it into a master list," Yonker said. "A book bag will have all of those items in it. So, we're very excited to be able to provide those for our families."

This day of fun also includes free haircuts, family portraits, food and much more for parents and children.

"Some ideas and some tips on how to be a productive and positive family unit," added Yonker. "We have a lot of those pieces embedded in our day."

The event is for all TSC students in kindergarten though 12th grade. TSC is able to host this event with help from many sponsors including Personal Touch Portrait Studios, Purdue Speech and Audiology, the Tippecanoe County Health Department and Lafayette Family YMCA.

Backpack Splash is happening at Wea Ridge Middle School from 1-4 p.m. TSC is providing free shuttle rides to and from the event from 19 different locations. A complete list of shuttle times can be found here.
