LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Franciscan Health is helping teach parents the importance of a properly installed car seat.
They are offering free monthly safety inspections to make sure seats are installed correctly.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 60% percent of all car seats are not installed correctly.
Technicians at Franciscan will go through the entire installation process with parents to ensure a seat is placed correctly.
They also check to make sure safety restraints are secured correctly.
Car seat technician Jacinta Langley says a properly installed seat greatly improves safety in the case of an accident.
"It reduces the impact and the force that is coming to them in a crash and so it reduces broken bones, neck, spine, all of those types of injuries,” said Langley.
Inspections are held at the Franciscan Education Center at 1501 Hartford Street.
Appointments must be made in advance by calling 765-449-5133.
