TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A former Tippecanoe County Deputy Prosecutor is charged with operating while intoxicated. Lafayette Police arrested Joseph Bauer on the night of February 26th.
An officer was dispatched to the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Promenade Parkway for a single vehicle crash around 10:45 p.m. Court documents say the responding officer smelled alcohol coming from Bauer, and he admitted to police that he had been drinking that night.
They went to Franciscan Health for a field sobriety test because it was icy that night, which Bauer failed.
Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Patrick Harrington confirmed that Bauer was employed at his office. However, he was immediately terminated as a result of this incident. He said a special prosecutor has been appointed for this case, and that his office has no further involvement.
He is charged with Operating a Vehicle with an ACE of .15 or more and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated; Endangering a Person.
