WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)—Purdue held it's 2019 Amelia Earhart summit on Saturday.

The weekend long event empowers students interested in a future in aerospace.

To help kick off the event was Purdue alumna and astronaut Beth Moses.

Moses is a Chief Astronaut Instructor for Virgin Galactic.

She was also the first female to fly to space on a commercial vehicle.

Earlier this year Moses earned her Commercial Astronaut WIngs from the Federal Aviation Administration.

She said she hopes this event will inspire students to keep pushing and breaking barriers.

"I hope people are inspired and connect with each other," said Moses. "From my particular talk I hope people get a sense of how human space flight is evolving and what's going on today in human space flight."
