MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - You may not have guessed it on first sight, but with whipping winds and chilly rain, families aboard the Madam Carroll in Monticello were having a great time celebrating Mother's Day. The boat set said from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In that time, families enjoyed a DJ, dancing, a full bar and a bouncy house for kids. Boat owner Chris Peters wasn't going to let a little rain stop the fun.

"Today it's a little rainy but nothing has stopped us from cruising or operating," Peters said. "Not low lake levels, not ice, so we're going to cruise."

Of course, the party for most families was below deck. One of those families was the McWilliams family. Megan McWilliams had three of her four children aboard, and her mother, Patty who made the trip from Arizona for the holiday.

"We like to spend time locally and what better place than the Madam Carroll," McWilliams said. "My daughter Avry, she's never been on a cruise before and neither has Patty."

Last year, they weren't able to celebrate Mother's Day the way they would have liked because of the pandemic. This year however, being out and about made their Mother's Day special.

"Just being here seeing all these families having a great time like normal, like they should be," McWilliams said. "Kids are dancing, my kids are having a great time and enjoying the scenery."

So despite the cold and the wind, Peters believes the Madam Carroll is capable of delivering a happy Mother's Day.

"Weather is the least of our worries and we can still put on a good time and we're happy with today's turnout, and we're happy that everybody's having a good time on the boat as well," Peters said.
