LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Registration begins Wednesday for a free course giving an inside look at the Lafayette Police Department.

LPD will host the fall session of its Citizens Academy beginning Sept. 18. It's an eight-week educational program designed to give residents opportunities to learn about law enforcement, police K9, criminal investigations, SWAT and CSI. The course meets every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lafayette City Council Chambers.

During the class, participants can ride along with police officers on duty and observe real life policing.

You must be 18-years-old and be willing to submit a background check. The class size is limited, and LPD said it usually fills up fast.

If you have questions, contact Lt. Matt Gard at (765) 807-1223. You can register beginning July 17 here.
