FOWLER, Ind. (WLFI) People in Benton County are on the lookout after a possible mountain lion was spotted in the area.

The Department of Natural Resources said that this is the second possible sighting in Indiana in the last two weeks.

Judy Pieper and her husband Clarence were picking up sticks in their backyard. They were working on putting in a fence for their dog, Shooter, but things changed after Judy saw something in the distance.

"I spotted something running over here, and it was chasing a cat, a small cat," said Pieper. At first glance, Judy thought it was a large tan dog. "So, I kept watching it... and it wasn't no dog, and it chased it [the domestic cat] into the cornfield," added Pieper.

Judy says she doesn't believe the domestic cat survived the attack. "I said, 'You're not going to believe what I just saw,' he said 'What was that?' and I said 'Well, I'm not sure, it was a mountain lion... it looked like a lion," said Judy.

That's when Clarence investigated the area for himself. "I jumped on the golf cart and went over there to separate any animals. I didn't see it, but where she said he went into the corn, there were two dogs that showed up there as I did, and they had no interest in going into the corn," said Clarence.

The couple informed police of the sighting a few hours later.

"Well, I know what a mountain lion looks like. It had a long tail, and it was big. It was big," said Judy Pieper.

The Fowler Police department is warning people not to leave children and animals alone outdoors. "It could still be out there. I don't know. We're watching," stated Pieper.

Fowler Police ask that if you see the reported mountain lion, don't approach it and call authorities.
