WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — More than 6 million Americans have tested positive for the Coronavirus and medical experts are saying it's more important than ever to get your flu shot.
Libby Richards is an associate professor in Purdue's nursing school. She says flu-like symptoms can mirror COVID-19 symptoms, and it's also possible to get both illnesses at the same time.
The two can become dangerous to those who are at risk. Richards says getting vaccinated should be at the top of everyone's check list.
"To me it's a no brainer," said Richards.
"We've got access to it, the flu vaccine is currently readily available, now is the time to get it. As our number of Coronavirus cases increase, our flu cases are going to do the same thing, unless we have high vaccination rates."
Richards says it's important to remember babies, under the age of six months, are not able to get flu shots. She believes this makes it more important for adults to get flu shots if they're around young children.
