TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) -- El Torito is bringing a taste of Mexico to the TASTE of Tippecanoe. We are less than 24 hours away from the event happening on Saturday, Jul. 31. at 6 p.m. in downtown Lafayette.
El Torito joins several other local restaurants that'll be represented at this year's TASTE. And when you think of El Torito, the owners say you should think of authentic Mexican cuisine. While they've got menu items you may be familiar with like tacos and quesadillas, it's the people behind the recipes that really make the difference.
It has been a staple place that sells Mexican cuisine in Lafayette for about five years. That's when owner, Ismiel Garcia Bega took over the restaurant with his brother.
Their menu has an array of options but he said tacos and meat platters are among their most popular dishes. At the TASTE they'll be offering three main meals and two side dishes from their menu. That includes Tacos (4), Flautas (3), Empanadas (4), Fruit Cups (5), and
Garcia Bega is excited to get some exposure after almost closing his restaurant last year due to hardships from the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I'm excited to participate because I like that people order and eat my food," said Garcia Bega. "They're going to enjoy my food and I like that, that's why I'm going."
