WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) — After leading No. 23-ranked Purdue to a pair of season-opening wins last week, junior guard Carsen Edwards was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Edwards shares the honor with Wisconsin's Ethan Happ.

Edwards averaged 26.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in leading Purdue to wins over Fairfield (90-57) and Ball State (84-75). He shot 18 of 39 (.462) from the field, 9 of 21 (.429) from 3-point range and made all eight of his free throw attempts.

He scored 30 points against Fairfield, the most for a Purdue player in a season opener since the 1995-96 season. Dating to last year, he posted consecutive 30-point games (30 vs. Texas Tech), the first Purdue player since Glenn Robinson in 1994 to accomplish that feat.

He also connected on a career-high seven 3-pointers, tied for the fourth most in a game in school history.

In the win over Ball State, he scored 23 points with five rebounds and five assists.

For his career, Edwards has scored 1,099 points with 173 assists and 238 rebounds. He has made 155 career 3-pointers, good for 14th on the Purdue career list.

Purdue heads to Charleston, South Carolina, this week for the Charleston Classic, tipping off Thursday against Appalachian State at 5 p.m.
