LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Pools in the Lafayette area are closed for the season, but for our four-legged friends pool season has just started. Area dogs now have the chance to enjoy the water of Castaway Bay for a few days.
Lafayette's Dog Park Assocation is hosting this year's 9th annual Pooch Plunge August 11 and 12.
Before draining the pool, organizers are keeping it open for man's best friend to enjoy.
Despite the ongoing pandemic, Dog Park Association President LeAnne Williams says the event will go on keeping social distancing and safety in mind.
"Everyone is supposed to wear a mask and stay six feet apart," Williams told News 18. "We'll have volunteers both inside the pool area at different quadrants to be available for questions, or just to ensure people are keeping their distance."
Organizers are asking for people to register online to reduce the amount of paperwork and money being touched. They're also limiting the event to 75 dogs per night to help with social distancing.
Williams says donations for the event will help Shamrock Dog Park with COVID-19 relief.
"With the COVID, we were shut down for three months. Coming off of winter where there's no memberships," Williams explained. "We're going to use the money to keep our operations going...to keep the safety and security of the dog park."
Registration is $10 for the first dog and $5 for each dog after that.
