KOKOMO, Ind. (WLFI) — The Delphi baseball program's bid at a state title performance fell just short Saturday afternoon in a 9-1 loss to Eastside in the class 2A north semi-state game.
The Oracles had troubles getting started offensively, a trend that continued throughout the entirety of the game. Eastside Junior Owen Willard pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits. Willard also tacked on several clutch hits at the plate, fueling the Blazers' ability to stretch its lead to 9-0 through 5.5 innings.
Delphi's first hit, and first run came in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Senior Gavin Gleason started things with a hit over the shortstops head, and Chase Long delivered on a line drive that scored Jaden Long.
This season marked the first time since 2010 that Delphi made the state's final four. Ryan Long's Oracles finished the season 26-7 overall, with a conference, sectional and regional title.
