December 12, 1 PM Weather Forecast Update

Soaking rainfall, strong winds & now falling temperatures....

Widespread rainfall amounts of 0.75-1.25" occurred overnight to this morning.  A few places saw up to 1.40".

We have seen a bit of sun, then a low-topped line of gusty showers & t'showers with the cold front.  Now it is low clouds & falling temperatures.  We continue to fall after 52-58 this morning-midday.  Now temperatures as of 12:50 p.m. are 42-48.

Winds are strong from the west-southwest, turning more the west & eventually northwest.  They are currently gusting to 37 mph in the area.

With the low-topped line of showers/t'showers & the winds just ahead of & behind that line gusts this morning-midday peaked at:

49 mph  2 N Athens (Fulton County)

45 mph  Remington

44 mph  Morocco; 2 W Rochester

42 mph  Kentland Municipal Airport

40 mph 3 E Fowler;  3 E Attica

39 mph  Fickle; Kokomo Municipal Airport; Purdue University Airport; Flora Municipal Airport; Peru Municipal Airport; WLFI Ob Site; Waynetown

38 mph  Rensselaer-Jasper County Airport; Grissom Air Reserve Base; Galveston Airport; 3 S Montmorenci

37 mph  Monticello-White County Airport; 5 W Delphi; 4 NE Monon

34 mph  Winamac

Overcast skies dominate the rest of they day with some areas of drizzle & a few showers & winds gusting 30-40 mph.

A few snow flurries are possible tonight with lows near 32.

Sunday should feature mostly cloudy skies & highs 37-42 with decreasing wind, followed by clearing & 22-26 Sunday night.

All of next week looks dry except for Wednesday morning.  A few snow showers are possible then.

Highs in the 30s to lower 40s will dominate the week with a lot of cloudiness.

Widespread rain returns late next Saturday to Sunday with highs in the 40s & 50s.

Two other systems seem likely from that point to Christmas with mainly rain & the continued trend towards above normal temperatures.

Right now, looks like a wet, windy Christmas Eve & Day with mild to warm temperatures.  Christmas Eve-Day severe weather may occur south & southeast of our area.

Is there any hope for a random snow that accumulates between now & Christmas?  If there would be any snow that can somehow occur it would tend to be on the ground for a short period of time.  We will watch Wednesday to see if we can do this.
