LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Lafayette business is under investigation by several law enforcement agencies in Tippecanoe County.
West Lafayette police Lt. Jonathan Eager says Deal Zone is the target of a long-term, joint investigation between the Lafayette and West Lafayette police departments, as well as the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office.
Eager declined to release further details, saying the business is actively under investigation.
Multiple reports suggest the business, located in the Lafayette Pavilions, 100 S. Creasy Lane, was raided by police on Friday. West Lafayette police records confirm a search warrant was served Friday morning.
Evan Rynearson, of Lafayette, was outside the business Friday afternoon while police loaded pallets of merchandise onto a rental truck.
"There was a Penske truck out front and there was detectives in plain clothes who were taking down inventory information and then it was getting palletized and then loaded onto the truck," he says.
A staff member at a nearby business says officers filled three trucks with items from the store.
Deal Zone is a buy-sell-trade store dealing mainly in video games, movies and electronics. Rynearson, a fan of vintage video games and systems, says he's shopped there several times and described the store as cluttered with some hidden treasures.
"Stuff stacked up. You might find stuff you're looking for underneath a table in a box that's closed," he says. "You kind of had to know where to look around and see where it was all stashed. You kind of wondered what treasures were hidden inside."
A sign posted to the front door says the business is temporarily closed. The store shelves appeared to be largely empty with some scattered clutter remaining inside.
News 18 attempted to call the store but no one answered.
