DAYTON, Ind. (WLFI) - A house fire in Dayton on March 2 is under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal. The Sheffield Township Fire Department responded to the fire at 1:25 a.m. where a large fire was at the back of the home on Walnut Street.
Nobody was in the home at the time of the fire. Two dogs were rescued by an unknown passerby.
Now, the cause of the fire is being investigated.
Sheffield Township fire chief Shawn Alkire has spoken to the resident and says they're looking at all possibilities.
"She had stated that everything was unplugged, so that helped lead us possibly in directions that we want to look at," Alkire said.
Alkire said the best way to get to the cause is to look at what is left from the fire.
"We'll just do our down and dirty like we usually do and look at what is actually burnt, and that kind of tells the story," Alkire said.
