WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) — Dakota Mathias has been selected to the 3-Point Championship roster for the 30th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Bill Greehey Arena at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio on Thursday, March 29, Intersport announced Monday.
Mathias is one of eight men’s college basketball players selected for the event that will air live on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. ET. He was invited to take part in the 3-Point Championship after being recognized as one of the nation’s finest shooters from three-point territory.
Mathias finished the season averaging 12.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while making 96 of 206 from beyond the arc for the 30-7 Boilermakers. His 96 3-pointers this season were the third most in a season in school history and he set Purdue’s career record with 250 trifectas.
He ranks sixth in the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage (.466), finishing the year fifth on the Purdue all-time single season list while posting the best 3-point percentage for a Purdue player in 11 years. His career 41.9 3-point percentage is also the fifth-best mark for a Purdue player in school history.
Mathias is a two-time Big Ten All-Defensive team member and he is one of three Purdue players (E’Twaun Moore, Vincent Edwards) to have 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists during his career. He set the career record for most games played (141), finishing 10th in career assists (408) and third in career assist / turnover ratio (2.69).
Mathias helped Purdue rank second nationally in 3-point percentage (.420) and shatter the school record for most 3-pointers made in a season with 353, the second most in Big Ten history.
A complete roster of participants will be released at a later date.
It marks the first time a Purdue player has competed in either the State Farm College Slam Dunk or 3-Point Championships since Jon Octeus in 2015 (slam dunk).
