CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) —Firefighting crews were called to a structure fire north of Logansport after a semi crashed.
According to Cass County Sheriff's Dispatch, a semi tanker crashed into a structure and was set on fire. It was in the area of 25 North and East 875 North. State Road 25 was reopened around 1:10 p.m.
The first call came in around 10:25 a.m. Wednesday. Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder was on the scene. He stated a semi tanker filled with diesel was heading south when it left the road and crashed into a garage and hit a propane tank and which then caught fire. The fire was put out at around 12:30 p.m.
Sheriff Schroder said the homeowner was the first one to call 911.
"The homeowner is very distraught right now. He was shaken, He was home when the semi tanker drove through his garage and he helped get the driver out of the cab," said Sheriff Schroder.
The driver was transported to Logansport Memorial to be treated.
"We have not had the chance to interview him yet for the crash investigation to determine exactly what happened, but we do know that he traveled off the roadway over 500 feet before he struck the garage," said Sheriff Schroder.
