LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — If you're looking for some warmth this winter, Cover Lafayette is giving away blankets, coats, scarves and more.

The project is designed for the homeless or anyone who may not be able to afford winter items.

The group recently asked for more donations on Facebook and the community delivered.

Now, there is a surplus of items.

"We just have such a loving, giving community," said Cover Lafayette Founder Julie Pope. "We come together when times are tough and things are hard."

You can pick up those warm items on the back porch of the Buttery Shelf on 927 Main Street in Lafayette. You can also donate more items to the pile there.

"If someone needs blankets and they are out in the cold or a place that has no heat, you're going to need more than one blanket so take what you need," said Pope. "We are covering skin that is all we are doing. You know, keeping people safe in this tough, frigid, potentially fatal weather."
