CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)—A policy at a Clinton County high school has parents demanding transparency. Clinton Prairie Junior-Senior High School is upholding transgender rights under the federal Title IX law.
Moments after an email was leaked on Facebook late last week several parents responded with concerns. The email was a reminder about the federal laws on students who identify as transgender or non-binary.
"This is going to be much broader than just from the confines of our small country school," said Jennifer Shifflett.
Parents want answers from administrators about how it's being implemented.
Jennifer Shifflett has two teenage students attending Clinton Prairie Jr/Sr High School. She said many of the parents are frustrated at the lack of communication from the corporation on the topic.
"It would have been rather simple if you ask me for them to send out an email to all the parents letting them know about what they have to comply with, that they have to do this," said Shifflett.
News 18 reached out to the interim superintendent for comment. She declined to go on camera, but sent the statement below:
"At this time, I can tell you that as public school educators, we are here to provide each individual a safe and effective learning environment. Clinton Prairie will continue to abide by all federal, state and local laws in doing so."
Shifflett hopes the school board will have an open discussion on how the policies are being implemented.
"We all expect to have private restrooms, a locker room facility opened for the ones who would like complete privacy," said Shifflett.
Shifflett said parents hope to have a discussion about Title Nine at the next school board meeting which is February 16th.
