LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The city of Lafayette is taking proactive steps to avoid more work along Teal Road.
As we previously reported, INDOT has been planning rehabilitation along Teal Road since 2018.
Before more work is done, the city wants to make sure they don't have to dig up the new roadway.
Crews will be replacing 900 feet of water main on Teal Road just east of 18th Street. That's near Tecumseh Middle School.
The project should save the city from more work in the future.
"This is an older water main that we have problems with and issues with from time to time," said Waterworks Superintendent Kerry Smith. "We just want to replace it and get it up into the grass area where we're not disturbing the street anytime we have a problem."
Work should start sometime this spring, and it will wrap up before INDOT begins anymore work in that area.
Some traffic restrictions are possible, but the city isn't sure how drivers will be affected yet.
