LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- A road extension project could make traveling through Lafayette a little easier.
The plan is to extend Park East Boulevard from McCarty Lane to S.R. 38.
It will be done in two phases. Phase one will take the road from Haggerty Lane to S.R. 38, and a traffic signal will be added at that intersection.
The second phase will extend it from McCarty to Haggerty.
City Engineer Jeromy Grenard said it will help traffic flow on Creasy Lane and Veterans Memorial Parkway.
"Instead of adding capacity to Creasy Lane, we make this extension, and it allows people to have alternate routes other than Creasy Lane and Veterans Memorial Parkway,' he explained.
However, Grenard said the project could come with other benefits.
"It is prime development land and this will open it up for development," Grenard added.
The project will be paid for with federal and TIF funding.
Phase one will begin in the Spring of 2021. There is not a timeline for phase two yet.
