WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Buck Creek man is facing multiple charges including trespassing and resisting arrest. According to court documents Matthew Gregory was taken into custody on August 18 after police went to to a home on River Road in West Lafayette.
Police said they received information that Matthew Gregory was at an apartment. He was wanted on two warrants and officers had warned Gregory for trespassing at this location on May 3, 2020. Officers arrived at the apartment and were told Gregory was there in the loft. Officers repeatedly ordered Gregory to come down from the loft, but he refused and verbally identified himself as someone else. Police could see that a mattress had been moved over the front of the ladder to the loft.
After trying unsuccessfully for a couple of hours to get Gregory to come down, a search warrant was obtained to enter the apartment and take Gregory into custody on the warrants.
As officers attempted to apprehend Gregory, He was found hiding behind a second mattress with a butane torch. Police said Gregory was attempting to light the torch when an officer used a taser to subdue him.
Gregory faces the following charges:
- Intimidation (level 5 felony)
- Attempted battery by means of a deadly weapon (Level 5 felony)
- Resisting law enforcement (level 6 felony)
- Criminal recklessness (Level 6 felony)
- Criminal trespass (Class A misdemeanor)
- False informing (Class B misdemeanor)
