LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Charges have been filed in a shooting incident in Lafayette. Tippecanoe County Prosecutors say 36-year old Major Townsend, also known as Anthony Holmes, shot a man in the leg on April 7th.
It happened on Broadway Street in Lafayette.
According to court documents, the victim, Jesse Payne, told police the two men argued over a bottle of vodka. Payne told officers that Major was upset with Payne after the bottle of vodka broke and Major wanted to be paid for the cost of the bottle.
Charges filed against Townsend include aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and carrying a handgun without a license.
Also according to court documents, prosecutors have charged him with being a habitual offender due to three unrelated felony convictions in Chicago. Burglary in 2005, escape electronic monitoring in 2005, and attempted robbery in 2009.
