LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) —Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski swore in Chad Young as the newest member of the City's Human Relations Commission this month.
Young makes the seventh member of the group. The Commission is responsible for the fight against prejudices in the community, with a focus on local businesses and schools.
Young's priority as a teacher is serving children and young adults in local educational institutions.
"My goal is to give the youth a voice," said Young.
"We have all kinds of backgrounds of students in our classrooms, whether they are learning disabled, come from a different creed, race, LGBTQ community, you know sometimes they feel they don't have a voice," said Young.
"I hope to be that bridge you know between them and like I said the local government."
