LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Central Catholic's football team is doing something special to honor the life of West Washington's Head Varsity Football Coach.
Phillip Bowsman died Monday after suffering a stroke in a semi-state football game Friday against Indianapolis Luthernan.
Lutheran is actually playing Central Catholic in the 1A state championship game Friday.
Both teams will be wearing special stickers on their helmets in the state championship game.
This is to support Bowsman, his family and the high school football community that is mourning his loss.
CC's athletic director said it's all about sportsmanship and supporting those going through loss.
"Anything that we can do to show our support and honor coach Bowsman and their community, we are all for it," said Tim Bordenet.
The stickers will arrive on Friday.
Indiana high schools are encouraged to turn on their football stadium lights Friday morning and leave them on until funeral service conclude for Bowsman on Saturday.
West Washington High School is a public high school in Campbellsburg, IN. It is about 170 miles south of Lafayette
