WESTFIELD, Ind. (WLFI) — The Central Catholic girl's soccer program won its first ever state championship Friday night over Park Tudor.

Park Tudor returned all 11 starters from the 2019 match, and CC returned nine.

The game was scoreless through regulation and both overtime periods, despite 17 shots from the Panthers and 14 from the Knights. The first round of Penalty Kicks was a 4-4 tie.

Round two went all the way until the final round, when Katie Rettig's shot was wrapped up by Katie Hutzel in the goal. CC's Madisyn Schultz hit the final penalty kick in the 10th round to seal the championship (9-8) over a Panthers team that beat them in the 2019 state final.

Schultz said that the tenacity of the 2020 Knights was on full display tonight.

"We weren't going to give up, and we came to give it our all," said Shultz after the game.

Hutzel added nine saves in the goal to post her sixth shutout win this season.

Mayah Love was named the IHSAA Mental Attitude award winner after the game concluded.

Central Catholic finishes (16-3) on the season. Park Tudor falls to (21-3).
