FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) — News 18 is honoring Carol Price as one of YWCA's Salute to Women honorees.
Price has transformed the school curriculum in Frankfort and helped make the city a healthier place to live.
Price said she is driven to help.
"I'd say now I'm a little old lady," said Price.
Price is more than just a little old lady.
"Everyone knows me," said Price.
Frankfort is a healthier, smarter and more educated community because of Price.
"I enjoy doing things in my community to improve the lives of other people," said Price.
People can thank Price for her federal and state level grant writing, her program Healthy Communities and the fact teen pregnancy has almost gone down half from 4.6 percent to 2.46 percent in Frankfort.
At 70 years old, Price said she's just a local volunteer, but she has also been a member of the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Wesley Manor.
"I've just always been the type of person that if someone seeks my help that means, I assume, they think I can do it and I can help and if my calendar is free than I say yes," said Price.
For now Price is saying yes to her success of Frankfort.
"I'm getting close to letting Healthy Communities fly." said Price.
She'll let her team take over the coalition with the goal of making a healthy choice the easy choice.
"We've come to the point where people trust us," said Price.
That's why she is confident leaving her role in good hands when she steps aside.
She's not sure when that time will come but she's ready to travel the world with her husband Larry.
"We have changed a lot of the environment and a lot of the policies in our community because it's about health in all policies," said Price.
Price said Healthy Communities is leasing its current building from Frankfort.
The coalition will move into a new building soon.
