TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Several community members were sworn in as CASA volunteers Wednesday afternoon. They are now court-appointed special advocates for abused and neglected children.
Family and friends joined at the courthouse to watch 17 volunteers take their oath. They promised to advocate for the best interest of the children in Tippecanoe County.
Each volunteer gets assigned to a case and works with a CASA staff member.
Julie Wonnacott said she volunteers because the need for help is great in Tippecanoe County.
"I have a son and, you know, I know that I would want someone to do that for me – to care for my child. So, it's just something little that I can do," said Wonnacott.
More volunteers are still needed. For those interested, the next training session for Tippecanoe County begins in February.
