WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) — Behind an eight-run fifth inning, the Purdue softball team cruised to a 10-1 run-rule victory in the team's final non-conference game against Notre Dame on Tuesday night at Bittinger Stadium.

With the victory, the Boilermakers collect 30 wins in a season for the first time since 2015 and defeat the Fighting Irish in back-to-back seasons since the 1999-2000.

Senior Jenny Behan opened the scoring with her 12th home run of the season in the bottom of the first, but Notre Dame answered quickly with an RBI double off the left field wall to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the second.

The score remained tied until an RBI single up the middle from Kasey Wilhoit in the fourth gave Purdue the go-ahead.

The Boilermakers than exploded for eight runs in the fifth as freshman Rachel Becker started the scoring with a double to center field with sophomore Ryleigh Scott in scoring position. A double to center field from senior Mallory Baker, followed by a single-run Notre Dame error pushed the edge to 5-1.

The Fighting Irish attempted to stall Purdue's momentum with their third pitching change, but the Boilermakers came right back with a two-RBI single from freshman Kendall chase and a two-RBI triple from Scott. Purdue claimed its final run of the game on a Notre Dame throwing error.

The Boilermakers totaled 10 hits to Notre Dame's five, with the Fighting Irish committing two errors on the night. Becker, Wilhoit and Scott each contributed two hits on the night, while Scott paced the team with two runs.

Senior Kaitlynn Moody (11-7) was in complete control in the circle en route to earning her 11th win of the season, allowing just one earned run on five hits and striking out two in a complete-game effort.

The Boilermakers continue their week with a Big Ten visit to Northwestern. The conference foes are set hit off their three-game series on Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
