LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) --  A bank robber walked into the wrong business Thursday before demanding money from a bank teller at Horizon Bank.

Around 3:15 in the afternoon he peeked his head into store next to the bank thinking it was, in fact the bank, but then walked out after realizing he was wrong.

"I wasn't sure if maybe they thought this was a bank since we are right next to Horizon Bank," said Jessica Navarro.

Navarro works next door to Horizon Bank.

She said she saw the bank robber walk around the corner and walk into her business with a long, dark-haired wig on with a surgical mask covering his face.

Navarro said she thought the man was a woman because what he was wearing.

After leaving the neighboring business, he went over to Horizon bank and handed the teller a note.

the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and then the man left and got into an unknown vehicle somewhere and went northeast.

He is still on the loose.

This marks the third bank robbery in Lafayette within the last two months and fifth in our viewing area since May.

Navarro described what happened.

"Finally, I see the person walk by again and kind of came in, peeked and walked right out," said Navarro. "Once I saw the picture online, once you guys posted it, I was like the fact that the person walked in I just thought that was scary, but at the time I wasn't thinking of anything. I wasn't thinking the bank next to me is going to be robbed."

Sgt. Brown with Lafayette Police said it is too early to tell if this bank robbery is connected to the others in Lafayette.

Police went door to door to try to find surveillance video of what the getaway vehicle looks like.
