LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — More Americans are buying firearms, in turn causing a shortage of ammunition at local gun shops.

Emergency Response Gear & Embroidery in Lafayette says they have been experiencing an ammunition shortage since this time last year, because more people than ever are purchasing guns and other related materials.

Emergency Response says the hollow point bullets have been harder to come by than full metal jacket bullets, but in general all ammunition is hard to find.

Joy Rhode is a spokes person for Emergency Response. She said the store has been limiting the number of boxes customers can purchase.

"It's affected our business as far as the frequency of people coming in," said Rhode.

"Everything is just a shortage. There just isn't the product available as there was in the past."

Rhode explained that the shop's supplier has had a staffing deficit, which has caused a product shortage for gun shops across the country. She also mentioned that their process should be back on track within the next couple of months.
