LPD makes arrests in overnight shots fired incident

Twenty-year-old Lawrence Bennett and 20-year-old Malik Adams were arrested on multiple preliminary charges.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Lafayette police have made two arrests after shots were fired in Lafayette late Thursday night.

Police said around 11 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of North 7th Street and found evidence of shots fired. Officers were also given a description of a vehicle seen leaving the area. 

Police found the vehicle near the corner of North 7th Street and Hartford Street. Police received a search warrant for a home and the vehicle. Police said they found three stolen firearms.

Both Bennett and Adams have been booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail. The two were arrested for the following:

-Carrying a Handgun without a License

-Possession of Stolen Property

-Possession of Stolen Property

-Possession of Marijuana

-Possession of Paraphernalia

-Disorderly Conduct

Malik Adams

-Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon

-Carrying a Handgun without a License

-Possession of Stolen Property

-Possession of Stolen Property

-Possession of Stolen Property

-Possession of Marijuana

Lt. Scott Galloway said the cause of the shots fired is still unknown at this time.

The investigation is ongoing. Anybody with information regarding this incident should contact the Lafayette Police Department (807-1200) or the anonymous We-Tip Hotline (800-78-CRIME).
