LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)—Last Sunday afternoon two male customers went into Arby's for lunch. When they got their receipt they noticed the order name was a homophobic slur. It happened at an Arby's on South Street in Lafayette.

It was then posted on Facebook by one of the men. The post received more than 100 likes and shares.

An Arby's spokesperson told News 18 the franchise worker was fired minutes after management was made aware quoting that it's "Unacceptable and not a part of the Arby's brand."

"I was shocked, just because the kid seem like he was new on the job and he was really nice," said one of the customers, John Burns.

He was at Arby's with his partner Craig Gray.

"This young man has learned this behavior somewhere," said Burns. "You know, there are some people out there that don't get people out there are like this and that's wrong."

Ashley Smith is the President for Pride Lafayette. She said this incident highlights a bigger issue.

"Cause it's a cycle," said Smith. "What did this person think when he did this, he or she. Did they feel like they got fired because they got in trouble or got told on by some customers. Do they realize the gravity of what they did."

Smith said people in the LGBTQ community and ally's should continue having pride and stand up for what is right when there's wrong.

"They should stand up if they see something happening," said Smith. "You stand up and you say this is not ok. What else can be done, in the moment, if you see this happen you can't just ignore it."

The Arby's spokesperson confirmed that there have been attempts made to reach out to the customers and apologize.
