Updated: Apr 27, 2021 11:30 PM

Highs yesterday ran 73-81, today they reached 82-88 with record warmth over the area.  We broke the record (preliminary) of 86 set in 1986 with 88 today at Greater Lafayette.

We weren't the only ones near/record warm!

Champaign, IL (U of I AP) 88...South Bend 85...Toledo, OH (Express AP) 86...87 Detroit (Willow Run AP)...86 Iowa City, IA...87 Moline-Quad Cities AP...86 Muncie-Delaware Co. AP...85 Kankakee AP...88 Oskaloosa, IA...

Chicago O'Hare, Midway, Wheeling & Joliet Airports 87...Pontiac, IL 87...Rockford, IL 86...87 Gary...86 Knox (Starke County, IN)...

Gusts yesterday were as high as 47 mph & today they were as high as 48 mph.  Gusts in the Greater Lafayette area over the past two days have been around 40 mph.

A passing isolated shower/storm is possible in the morning.

Scattered showers & storms are likely in the afternoon.  Two main areas of focus for storms will be in 1) a line near/north of 18 & 2) line/round of showers/storms over the southern half of the area.

An isolated severe storm or two is possible with mainly a wind & hail threat.

After a lull in the evening, showers & a few storms initially will transition to just showers Wednesday night.

Showers are likely through the night & into Thursday.  They should taper late afternoon Thursday with a nice, sharp clearing trend.

A secondary surface cold front will pass Thursday night with clouds & a few isolated showers.

A couple of bands of 1-3" will occur in the viewing area:  one in the southern half & another along/north of 18 with less in-between the two.

So, some locally-heavy rainfall is possible.

Heaviest rainfall will occur south of the viewing area with a band of +5" possible from Oklahoma to southeastern Missouri, southern Illinois, Indiana to Kentucky.

Friday will be bright, but cooler, followed by a nice weekend!

It will get more active later Tuesday through Wednesday of next week with multiple rounds of showers & storms.

Parameters suggest SLIGHT RISK & higher risk south of our area (up to MODERATE).

Stint of cooler (highs 62-68, lows 37-42) & drier weather should follow before we warm again & turn stormy.
