There area few spotty rain/snow/sleet/graupal showers bubbling up in the area, but much of it is evaporating on the way down.
We may see a few make it to the ground this evening with 25% POPs.
You can see the streaks of precipitation trying to reach the ground. Much of it is virga.
Near these virga showers, convective-type wind gusts are mixing down as the evaporating precipitation further chills the air & with the sun, some of that heavier, colder air is mixing to the ground.
Thus, some strong gusts have (gusts to 40 mph) & will occur near & with this mix showers. Outside of these, gusts will run 25-30 mph.
As some of the precipitation reaches the ground this evening, some very gusty winds may mix down up to 45 mph in some places.
1" of snow or less is likely on grassy & elevated surfaces (roads wet) Wednesday morning to midday.
Areas along the Kankakee River may see 1-2". Could that 1-2" band shift more to the south. Possibly. Some data shows it shifting south toward US 24 or even Indiana 18.
Snow should not last long on the ground.
Afternoon looks mostly cloudy with a few spotty rain/snow/graupal showers & highs 41-46 (after 26-31 tonight, then rising to 31-34).
Tomorrow will be rather breezy from the northwest (up to 25 mph), as well.
Thursday looks mostly sunny, then becoming cloudy late with highs 44-48 with a west to southwest wind up to 22 mph.
Snow is likely Thursday evening-night to Friday morning with temperatures wet-bulbing to 31-33.
1" or less of snow will whiten the grass & elevated surfaces over the area, but I do think that there will be a band of 1-3".
Big question is where that band sets up. Best estimated right now is paralleling the Indiana 18 corridor. Confidence is still pretty low on placement of that band of best frontagenetical forcing.
Snow will not last long on the ground Friday.
The afternoon looks mostly cloudy with a few spotty rain/snow showers & highs 38-44.
The weather gets much better over the weekend with just a few showers possible late Sunday to Monday morning.
Scattered showers & some t'storms are possible as a warm front move northward into & through area Tuesday-Tuesday night.
