LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- During the stay at home order, home improvement projects became a popular way for people to spend their time. In this Always Together, Always Local we feature Best Window and Door who say their support from the community has been overwhelming since they opened back up. Like many businesses, Best and Door stopped operations in late March.
"The negative part was we shut down on March 24th with a pretty good size backlog," said Merle Kenworthy the owner of Best Window and Door.
Since they have opened, that back-log has grown since more people were spending time at home.
"During that time a lot of people were home and were looking at their windows and doors and siding and we have been overwhelmed with business since we came back May the 4th," added Kenworth
With the influx in business, the company has been taking extra precautions when interacting with their customers.
"We are doing it strictly on the computer and on the phone,” said Kenworthy. “We aren't really coming in contact with customers which is kind of hard for us because we always built a relationship as part of the deal. We still have a relationship but it's different."
Even though their relationship has changed with customers, the company says the greater Lafayette community has still been supportive.
"Everybody stuck with us,” said Kenworthy. “We had right at 24 jobs when we shut down and I only had one customer call and say hey I'd like my deposit back. So the community stuck with us and I appreciate that and maybe that's why I have stayed in Lafayette all my life."
Which is why even Best Window and Door is making a bigger effort to shop local.
"We got take care of our own it will branch out, outside of our community also but the majority of it needs to stay here with us," added Kenworthy.
