We are tracking spring-like weather to close the work week. Southerly winds are picking up in the speed and it is allowing temperatures to quickly rise this midday. Temperatures were in the upper 40s at the noon hour and highs are expected to rise into the lower 50s this afternoon. Wind gusts up to 40 MPH will be possible today and tonight.
Our next storm system in on the way and it will bring a cold front to Indiana on Saturday. Rain showers will trigger ahead of the boundary with the rainfall late this evening. Scattered showers will continue to fall throughout the overnight hours as lows fall into the lower 40s.
You will want to keep the rain gear on hand through Saturday morning. However, forecast models are hinting that cloud cover will decrease through the afternoon. Highs will still reach near 50° in the Lafayette area, but colder air will intrude Saturday night. As a result, temperatures will fall nearly 10 degrees on Sunday under a mostly cloudy sky. A more winter-like weather pattern is going to settle into the area next week.
