TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) -- The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident that happened between an 81-year-old man and a minor on the 4th of July holiday.
On Saturday, at 4:12 p.m., Tippecanoe County deputies responded to a report of a sexual assault at a home located off CR-N 400 W in West Lafayette. There they found Donald Eugene Crider, 81, who had allegedly touched a 17-year-old female inappropriately. Crider armed himself while inside the home after being told law enforcement had been contacted. The victim escaped the home with no injuries before law enforcement arrived.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit worked to get Crider out of the home for about four hours. Crider eventually walked out of the home on his own and was detained and in custody at 8:19 p.m.
Crider was booked into the Tippecanoe Jail on the following charges:
Sexual Battery – Level 6 Felony
Criminal Confinement – Level 6 Felony
He is currently being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail without bond.
Other assisting law enforcement agencies include West Lafayette Police, Purdue University Police, and Tippecanoe County Emergency Ambulance Service.
We've been told by the sheriff's office that we don't have a mug shot yet because Crider won't cooperate.
This story will be updated including a mugshot when it becomes available.
