LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — News 18 is always keeping up to date on our viewer's "Report It" submissions.
Recently, one, in particular, caught our eye.
"Welcome to our weather news on WLFI. We have our Lafayette five day forecast," said Ezra Hayden.
The 5-Year-old Lafayette boy has a passion for weather.
"This is our Tuesday news and we are doing it cloudy!" said Hayden.
His dad, Jason Hayden is doing all he can to fuel his love for forecasting.
"The technological piece of it and the learning piece of it and the geographic piece of it," explained Jason Hayden. "There's a lot of learning tools involved, and of course he just soaks it all up."
That includes helping Ezra turn his bedroom into a weather center.
"Let them find their interest and just facilitate the bejeebers out of that, right? So, whatever they're interested in, just go in, all into it," he added.
With the help of a greenscreen from Santa Claus, Ezra can now record his own weather forecasts.
"My name is Ezra, by the way, and Wednesday we are going to have 36 degrees for the high," said Hayden.
So, when we saw his forecast, we couldn't resist. We had our Chief Meteorologist Chad Evans reach out and talk to Ezra about his hopes and dreams.
"I have to tell you, I am really, really impressed with the set up you have at your house," said Evans.
"Oh, yeah!" Hayden exclaimed.
On top of getting to chat with his favorite meteorologist and getting a virtual tour of the Precision 18 weather center, Ezra also got some really good advice.
"I have a message for you, okay?" said Evans.
"Okay!" Hayden said.
"I think it's awesome that you love weather, and I want you to work really hard and keep studying weather all the time because you're a smart guy and you're going to go really far," said Evans. "I can see it already."
It's clear Ezra will be able to accomplish whatever he sets his mind to.
"I love weather so much. It makes me want to be on your team," Hayden said.
