LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The city of Lafayette is working to ban electronic cigarettes in locations where smoking is currently not allowed.

On Monday, the city council will vote on an amendment doing just that. It adds e-cigarettes to the current smoking ban ordinance.

That means e-cigarettes or vaping would not be allowed in certain places, including restaurants, work places and other common areas.

President Ron Campbell said several citizens have complained, so the city attorney drafted the ordinance.

"She obtained the information from a number of cities. Indianapolis has one, I guess," said Campbell. "A lot of the cities our size already have the same ordinance."

The council will have its first vote on Monday. The ordinance requires two votes to become effective.
