LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — With temperatures dropping and winter closing in, food security becomes an even more important concern for many. Duke Energy is lending a hand this year with a project aimed at helping hundreds of families.

About 100 volunteers, including Duke employees, will assemble 2,250 holiday food packages with Food Finders Food Bank.

Assisting them with the project are volunteers from organizations like the City of West Lafayette and United Way of Greater Lafayette

The food packages will be put together for use by pantries in Tippecanoe, Clinton, Benton, Carroll, Fountain, Warren and Montgomery counties.

Purdue Men’s Basketball will help distribute food at one of two mobile pantry sites funded that day by Duke Energy.

The event will take place at Food Finders Food Bank Warehouse, 1210 N. 10th St., Lafayette on Friday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Duke Energy says it's is a way for them to give back to the community.

It is one of their signature volunteer projects this year as Duke Energy Foundation is funding the project with a $50,000 grant.

They will partner with Food Finders to distribute the packages.
